As the series develops into more intermediate/advanced concepts, so too will your practice grow allowing you to <em><strong>confidently take your practice into any studio</strong></em> that happens upon your path.</p>

1. Introduction to Body Alignment &amp; Its Application to Any Pose
2. Standing Postures
3. Floor Postures
4. Healthy Spine: Backbends &amp; Twisting
5. Arm Balances &amp; More Advanced Variations</p>

· Learn proper <em>ALIGNMENT</em> in the key poses of yoga.
· Learn about how poses might be modified to best fit each person’s individual needs.

Is it based soley on one&#8217;s circumstances? Or, do we all really have a say in our own happiness despite biology and circumstance?

Positive psychology is a recent branch of psychology whose purpose was summed up in 1998 by Martin Seligman and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi: &#8220;We believe that a psychology of positive human functioning will arise, which achieves a scientific understanding and effective interventions to build thriving individuals, families, and communities.&#8221;

<div>The field of public health has been discussing the link between Alzheimers and sugar intake for the past 7 years and was a huge point of discussion during my master&#8217;s degree.  In short, we all eat too much sugar.  The National Institute of Health advocates eating only 50g of sugar per day and most nutrition experts say that number should be closer to 40g.  To give you all some perspective, here is a list of categories with their associated sugar content:</div>
<ul>
	<li><strong>Vegetables</strong>: 1-9 grams per serving</li>
	<li><strong>Fruit:</strong> 8-25 grams per serving</li>
	<li><strong>Soda:</strong> 40- 65 grams per serving (12 oz)</li>
	<li><strong>Candy:</strong> 34-54 grams per serving (This usually only accounts for 1/3 &#8211; 1/2 of the entire package of candy)</li>
	<li><strong>Icecream:</strong> 21-30 grams per serving (A serving of icecream is 1/2 cup aka approximately the size of 2 golf balls)</li>
	<li><strong>Alcohol:</strong> Although most wine and beer has less than 10g of sugar, alcohol (particularly on an empty stomach) depletes the glycogen storage in the body and interferes with the body&#8217;s ability to sustain proper blood sugar levels.</li>
	<li><strong>Yogurt:</strong> 14-26 grams (for individual containers)</li>
	<li><strong>Milk:</strong> 13 grams (for 1 glass)</li>
	<li><strong>Pasta sauce</strong>: 7-13 grams per 1/2 cup serving</li>
	<li><strong>BBQ sauce</strong>: 13-17 grams per 2 T serving</li>
	<li><strong>Baked Goods:</strong> 8-35 grams per 1 palm-sized portion.</li>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[Although we do not promote simply one style of eating, at THRiVE we generally advocate something called &#8220;90/10.&#8221; Coined by Joshua Rosenthal, founder of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the only thing you really need to know from this is simple- eat whole foods, mostly plants 90% of the time, and allow some wiggle room 10% of the time.  We distinguish between these two by calling it &#8220;fueling&#8221; and &#8220;feasting.&#8221; 90% of the time, one eats no frills fuel that provides high energy and nutrition.  10% of the time, one can (and should) feast.  After all, there are seasons to celebrate and food often serves as the focal point that allows people to take pause, come together, and give thanks.  As food bonds, food can also isolate.  Take a moment to explore how &#8220;fueling&#8221; and &#8220;feasting&#8221; intersect other areas of your life. How does each impact your work, exercise, physical intimacy, social relationships, spirituality, and mood?

Last week, Jonathan and I met up with our dear friends, Gilbert Sawtelle and Meagan McKellar for &#8220;Gnocchi Night.&#8221;  Although all of us eat clean during the week, this night was about good friends coming together, listening to the Beatles on their record player, THRiVE commissioning Gilbert to do our &#8220;Inspirational Wall&#8221; in the fitness room, and feasting.  And feast we did! After living in Italy for six months, I can say with confidence that Meagan has a very mature cooking style that rivals even some of the best chefs in Tuscany.  (I know, big talk!)
